Onymacris unguicularis

Onymacris unguicularis also known as the "fog-basking" beetle is native to the Namib Desert.  While there are several other beetles that are located in the Namib Desert, Onymacria ungiclaris is the only beetle that assumess the "head standing fog-basking" behavior that inspired the Dew Bank water bottle.

Other beetles that live in the Namib Desert include Onymacris laeviceps, Stenocara gracilipes and Physterna cribripes.  While these beetles do not use the "fog-basking" behavior they capture fog utalizing other traits such as digging trenches.
